The Minds Behind plusmeta
AI by heart - TechDoc by nature
plusmeta was founded in the summer of 2019 by Dr. Jan Oevermann and Stephan Steurer. Emerging from Jan Oevermann’s PhD thesis, plusmeta GmbH combines scientific and pragmatic thinking with the latest technologies since its foundation. A large part of our team has its roots in technical documentation and is familiar with the industry and the software systems used.
Working at plusmeta means solving complex problems with state-of-the-art technologies and helping to shape a young company. At eye level, in a motivated team that is constantly developing and enjoys advancing our customers with intelligent information.
In the summer of 2023, the Quanos Group GmbH took over 100% of the shares of plusmeta GmbH. The plusmeta team will remain an independent unit. The systems of other software vendors will continue to be supported to the same extent as before.

Become part of our team
Teamwork and team spirit are just as much a matter of course for us as compensatory time off and home office. We attach great importance to extensive co-determination opportunities and personal freedom — from the working environment to working hours. Open positions and more information about our benefits can be found on our job portal at Workwise.
Research Projects
plusmeta has its roots in science and research. That’s why we constantly develop our products and work daily to make the latest technologies usable. Research findings are regularly incorporated into the plusmeta software, helping to make it even better.
KREEN Project
KREEN stands for “KI-Anwendungen zur Recherche und Extraktion der Entscheidungsbasis für den Nachhaltigen uns Ressourcen-schonenden Betrieb von Maschinen und Anlagen (AI applications for research and extraction of the decision basis for the sustainable and resource-saving operation of machines and plants).” Industry accounts for about 45% of total energy consumption in Germany. With this new research project, we want to contribute to the sustainable conservation of energy resources. Valuable knowledge about consumption values, optimal operating parameters, design criteria, maintenance cycles, and repairs is often hidden in companies’ technical inventory documents. Using an innovative combination of multiple AI techniques and a focus on Large Language Models, KREEN aims to identify, extract, and contextualize relevant data. Our goal: The creation of an intuitive application that enables industrial companies to disclose energy-saving potential and make decisions on this basis. Funding is provided by the state of Baden-Württemberg as part of the program: “Invest BW – Förderung von Innovations- und Technologievorhaben.”
Memberships
As a driver of progress, plusmeta is involved in various consortia, networks, and initiatives
With our roots in technical documentation, plusmeta's membership in the Society for Technical Communication — tekom Deutschland e.V. is a matter of course. tekom is one of the world’s most important interest groups in technical communication. As active members, we are regularly present at various trade fairs and events and actively participate in further developing essential industry standards.
plusmeta is a member of the iiRDS Consortium, dedicated to creating an international standard for exchanging intelligent information. As a founding and “full member,” we are significantly involved in developing and specifying this versatile approach. In addition to the full integration of iiRDS into the plusmeta Platform, we have created practical tools to further simplify the use of this standard in practice with the iiRDS Validation Tool and the iiRDS Open Toolkit.
The Digital Data Chain Consortium develops standards and technologies for an efficient exchange of digital manufacturer information for a smooth exchange of technical information and data. The VDI 2770 guideline is a key component of the Digital Data Chain. In cooperation with the Consortium, plusmeta has developed the free VDI 2770 Open Toolkit. This toolkit is specifically designed to help plant operators in the process industry, technology suppliers for the process industry, and providers of technical services for plant operators in the process industry to use digital manufacturer information and thus also to implement the digital data chain.
plusmeta is a member of CyberForum, a cross-industry network for IT companies, startups, and founders in the Karlsruhe region. The CyberForum aims to promote the IT and technology industry in the area by providing a platform for exchanging know-how, experience, and contacts.
The program of the Baden-Württemberg Foundation aims to enable the transfer of scientific AI ideas into entrepreneurial products and services. The focus is on bringing people from different disciplines together to achieve fundamental progress in science and business. plusmeta is involved in the mentoring program, with Jan Oevermann as an expert.

Awards
plusmeta: excellent and innovative
plusmeta was awarded KI-Champion Baden-Württemberg 2023 by the Ministry of Economy, Labor and Tourism Baden-Württemberg. With this award, the state of Baden-Württemberg honors companies with outstanding innovations in artificial intelligence.
As one of the “100 Orte für Industrie 4.0 in Baden-Württemberg” (100 Places for Industry 4.0 in Baden-Württemberg), plusmeta is one of the lighthouse projects in terms of digital innovation power in the state of Baden-Württemberg and has been awarded by the Allianz Industrie 4.0 Baden-Württemberg.
The goal of the DIN-Connect idea competition is to promote innovations in standardization in the field of modern technologies. Our winning project: “meta² - KI-Prozesssicherheit mit Metametadaten (KI process safety with meta metadata), “with the resulting VDE SPEC 90009.
